The State of Fashion: Houston!
Hey guys! Welcome back to the SoF!LAST POST (in case you missed it)THE MASTER LIST (for links to every post to date)Today we’ll be discussing the overall style and aesthetic of the American city of Houston, Texas. As we’ve done before, if you live in the area and/or feel you know fashion, comment about your opinion on the local state/form of fashion, hopefully inciting a good discussion that I’ll write up into a little summary referencing the most comprehensive comments a day after this post is up. Of course, since this is a discussion post, if you have any fun stories or insights you’d like to share involving the area, please do! It’s all appreciated.Contributors are now requested to try and be a little more specific regarding their responses – your content for the most part is amazingly detailed, but it would be great if you could give some specific examples regarding the style you’re writing about (ie. detail a potential outfit/s you would see in the area ).

Simple Questions – ASK AND ANSWER HERE!- January 21
This thread is for simple style questions that don’t warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Fit checks and “How’d I do” questions are a great use of this thread (although they can also go in the daily Outfit Feedback & Fit Check thread). Other example questions:Could someone take the chest measurement for a small J.Crew oxford? Is there a place with full measurements for Naked & Famous jeans? What slim-fitting green cords do you recommend?Where do I find a military surplus peacoat online? If you’re asking for suggestions for a specific kind of clothing/accessory, state what your budget is.Important: Downvotes are strongly discouraged in this thread. Sorting by new is strongly encouraged.

[Review] Saint Laurent Paris 30mm Wyatt Chelsea boot in black calfskin leather
Album with pictures of the boots in their current stateDisclaimer: Yes, i have handled Berluti, Edward Green and John Lobb too. This is my PERSONAL perception of the boots after 2 years of ownership .IntroSaint Laurent (Previously known as Saint Laurent Paris and YSL) in one of the biggest fashion houses in history of fashion. Previously known as Yves Saint Laurent, it has since gone through many changes. Most recently being one of the main brands to push the rockstar, luxe style to a whole new level and still maintaining one of the highest wearability grades of the any high fashion brand since the earlier seasons when Hedi Slimane was the creative director of the house (2013 – 2016).One of the biggest hits from the brand has the been the boots in the Wyatt which are, arguably, one of the best silhouettes ever created for sleek boots you can buy off the rack. They come in 30mm, 40mm and 60mm. There’s a 85mm boot but it doesn’t use the Wyatt last. This boots gathered so much success that since they day they were introduced, many many brands have tried to copy or make boot as similar as possible to them while always coming short on both the toe box shape and heel shape.Retail price for Wyatt boots goes from 945 USD / 745 EUR up to 1500 USD / 1200 EUR depending on the model of the boot you chose to buy. Mine were 690 EUR when I got themShoe Build/construction/leather quality/durabilityBoots from 2013 are cemented aka glued soles which is pretty shitty considering the first iterations had some of the sickest details but due to this construction issue, it, personally, makes me avoid trying to buy them. From 2014 and onwards boots are Blake stitched boot which helps with the durability and resolability of the boots, making them repairable and extending the life time. The calfskin leather quality is pretty good, insanely soft, scuffs aren’t even noticeable and it breaks in pretty easily. Someone mentioned plastic feel and I got that too but only from the boots that were on display so no concerns at all with what you end up receiving. The elastic has also kept its shape, still pretty solid. The only thing that has gotten wear down was the leather insert in the sole of the heel but thats super easy to have changed. You will find an enormous amount of comments saying how Saint Laurent quality is trash or call them “overrated fashion boots” because its not made by “real shoe artisans” or whatever that is supposed to mean but after two years of ownership I have not had any issue regarding any quality or construction issue. Sure it’s overpriced but that’s about it.I’ve worn my boots to bars, went clubbing with, have walked a lot on them and when i wear them its always at least for 6 ~ 8 hours a day. They aren’t heavy at all so its helps with comfort. They are still holding up insanely well, almost look brand new.SizingMy feet are 25,4cm long and all my SLP wyatt boots weather its suede calf leather or calfskin leather are size 39 EU.I dont have wide feet so the SA told me just go to the smallest size possible and it fit perfectly. For reference, I wear 39 in Common Projects achilles lows, 41 in Adidas Ultraboosts, 41 1/3 in Adidas Stan Smiths and 7 US in Yeezys.MaintenanceBlack shoe polish, shoe trees and black saphir renovateur from time to time to keep the leather in its best shape and condition.ImpressionsI absolutely love them to death. They were my grail and now Im insanely happy that I own them. Getting used to the heel took me a few days but eventually became natural and now it doesn’t bother me at all. They go with absolutely any colour of skinny jeans so versatility isn’t a concern at all. I guess thats why they say black chelseas are one of the staples of the SLP look. Also, they great thing about this is that you can equally dress them up as you can dress them down. If you got skinny/pretty slim trousers, they can also be worn with those without any style clashes.Public Reception/PerceptionNow one of the most controversial topics that comes up with this boots that are deemed as “too feminine”, “girl boots” and homophobic slurs.I kinda just started ignoring them because my country is too conservative and education is trash so its kinda pointless to be worrying about what others think about how i wear.My friends at first were like “why are you wearing womens clothes”, “arent those girls shoes”. “why you dress like that” and i just told them its menswear thats pretty popular in europe (they know i lived there for like 8 months) and that i liked it, so they just stopped caring about it.I also get homophobic slurs on the streets from time to time but idgaf about those. Also since people in my country are insanely racist, discriminatory and profile you just by the colour of your skin (im brown), this boots kinda screw with the preconceptions. As in if I go to a fancy or mid range restaurant wearing my NMDs, UBs or CPs, the people at the door look down on you thinking you shouldn’t be there but whenever i wear my boots, as soon as they see them, the tone of their voice immediately changes and treat me much better. Its a sad thing that people can be so shallow that just by the shoes you wear they completely change attitudes.ClosingBoots are incredibly well made, quality is amazing, no real reason to worry about durability if they’re taken care properly, they work with an insane amount of outfits.Im happy as fuck I was able to get the literal last pair in europe when i went to buy them. There are a few alternative but they all lack some things in terms of design, while having equal or better quality materials. I’d just stick with SLP because it fills all my needs for the kind of boot that i want.Design and look 10/10Leather quality 8/10Comfort 8/10Durability (so far) 10/10Album with pictures of the boots in their current stateRandom fit picture with the bootsAny other questions, just ask them.
